The Indianapolis symphony is performing Mozart’s Requiem as a part of the Lilly Classical Series at Hilbert Circle Theatre, October 10 at 8:00 PM to October 11 at 5:30 PM.
Fun Fact: In summer of 1791, a “stranger in black” knocked on Mozart’s door in the middle of the night and offered him a commission for a Requiem Mass on behalf of an anonymous patron. In the midst of writing the work, a depressed and ill Mozart became concerned with his own demise and wrote to a friend that “I am writing my own funeral music.” Mozart died on December 5, 1791 with the unfinished manuscript lying on his bed. It was his student, Franz Xaver Sussmayr, not Salieri, who completed the work for his teacher and friend.
